Abida sultana, the popular crafter and owner of the brand Uusinool

Last week, we had an inspiring interview with Deepa Prasad from Geethu's crafts who is earning money from doing crafts at home. The response received for her interview was quite good. This week, I feel proud to introduce Abida Sultana from UUSINOOL to all of you. She has received Guinness Certificate for participating in making of the largest blanket from India.  She is working from home and having a successful career from home itself. We had a quick interview with her and let us move onto that.

Tell us a little about you: 

I am Abida sultana from Thanjavur, graduated in B.sc. Fashion technology and costume designing. My native is Koothanallur near Thiruvarur District. My father is an acupuncturist and my mother is a homemaker. I am doing home based business. I make crochets, bead works and also I stitch.

About your Work From Home Job:

 I am doing home based craft business. I learned crocheting at the age of 12 and other craft works too. I used to make all kinds of pouches, flowers, bags in both crochet and fabric. I also make party gowns for kids.

Why did u choose work from home career?

After finishing UG, I felt bored at home. I started selling my creations through Ebay. Slowly it turned as my career and created an identity for me.

How much one can earn in your business?

Earning depends upon the buyers requirments as my products go on with any occasion and season. Approximately I earn Rs.6000 to Rs.10,000 per month from this work from home business.

Tell us some of your popular products which you sell?

All crochet products like a pouch, key chain, handbags, flowers, blankets. I also sew cute fabric bags, pouches,kids and baby frocks, fabric flowers, cushion and quilting blankets. I also make handmade jewelleries. I make customized things also as per requirements from customers.

Tell us about your important turning point in your business:

My important turning point was when other crafters started referring me for their crochet embellishments.

Tell us about the difficult times you have faced and how did u manage to recover:

Completing work on time is the only difficult thing for me. Since crochet takes a lot of time to make, I have to work day and night when I get an order in large quantity. Sometimes I need to request more time from customers.

What are the difficulties you face in working from home career? 

Since I am staying in a small area, getting right materials are not easy. So I prefer to buy from online stores. Some of my friends also help me in buying things and sending them to me. 

How are u balancing work and personal life?

My work is a part of my life. Currently I am single. So it is not very difficult to balance work and personal life.
