Hello all,
How are you all doing? Last, we had an interview with Grace Lavanya from Crafters Nest. You can read her interview here - Crafters Nest. This week, we have the interview with Nimita Rose Peter who has done her ME in Electrical engineering. She has been working as a QA Engineer in Technopark, Trivandrum and doing her own business from her home too. Her journey started when her niece was born. Wondering how? Read on to know more.

My father, Peter John is a retired Engineer and was working with Air India. My mother, Lilly Peter is a homemaker. I spent most of my childhood and education in Chennai. I am married to Jomy Joseph (who is the reason behind Passion Hues). He is a Business Analyst in a software company, Technopark, Trivandrum. We are expecting our little one this December too.
It was my husband who encouraged me into starting a page “Passion Hues - Yarn Creations” in January 2016. My friends and colleagues encouraged me and I started getting orders. Then I went on to do baby dresses and within years I expanded my knowledge in crochet and started tutu crochet dresses, Baby Accessories, Home decors, Fashion Accessories, dolls, shrugs, bags and much more.

Within 3 months of creating the page I got amazing response. The baby sets (Mittens, booties, headbands and full crochet apparels) and tutu dresses were a huge hit. I got orders for baptism ceremonies of babies. I am very thankful to the amazing people I came across. Their support and confidence lets me try challenging patterns.
One of the major turning point was when my husband and I kept a Crochet stall at a Technopark Exhibition twice. It was an amazing experience and had a month’s preparation. I got an idea of which of my works go well with the audience. I improved more, created more designs and was able to reach more people.
I recently was part of the Indian Women Crocheter team MICQ which got the Guinness world record for the Longest Scarf.
Till now I have taken orders that can be handled. Once in a while materials may not come at time expected. But it has never been a big issue because customers were very friendly and understanding. So now I stock up basic colours of yarns and all accessories required for my work.
Also handmade takes time. So I tell my customers beforehand the approximate time it would take.
My business is mostly customized so I get the customers requirements in detail - Colour, size, even very minute details. I confirm with them in final on the design and then begin my work.
The household chores are shared by my husband and me. He handles the packaging and couriering. He has been a big pillar of support.
I do crochet at odd places too - Train, car, bus. My first priority would always be home and family. Then the little time I get I spent on crochet.
Most of the works are customized. I have received good response for my tutu dresses, shrugs, baby sets. I do crochet dress sets in cotton yarns which is comfortable for kids during summer. I do some stitching works too like combining crochet and fabrics. Sharing few of my works that are close to my heart.
Customer reviews motivates you to do more. Sharing few of them:
Manjusha - I chanced upon this FB page and decided to give it a shot with requirements for my kids. Interacting with Nimi is an absolute pleasure. She undoubtedly is super talented and totally aims at customer satisfaction. She understood my customized requirements perfectly! She kept me posted on her work in stages and was willing to incorporate minor changes! Needless to say, the end products, booties and jacket for my lil boy and matching jacket for his big sis turned out beautifully. What further impressed me is her constant follow up until the parcel reached me safe. Kudos to you dear.
Celine - You need not worry about the end result if you're trusting Nimi. The final product will be beyond stunning. You can mark my words. I wanted to try crocheted dress and accessories for my baby girl's baptism and Nimi surprised with the final products. The dress is stunning and so does the accessories. We can get things customised just the way we wanted and Nimi never fails us in that. Great work Nimi. Looking forward to bug you more.
Vishnu Priya - I purchased a pink baby girl dress to gift my friends's daughter. She was very happy with the gift and loved the color and comfort. Nimi did a wonderful job and took special care with colors and pattern. Passion Hues creations are unique and adorable. Do try it and you will fall in love with it
I would like to expand it with more people working on the orders I get. Till now it is only me who is working on them. E-commerce is one of my bigger plans. Let’s see how it goes.

Crochet is an art of creating fabrics by interlocking loops of yarn using a crochet hook. I learned crochet when I just completed my M.E and was waiting for my Job offer in 2014. My niece was born and I wanted to make her few headbands and booties. So I just opened up some Youtube Crochet tutorial videos and followed it as closely as possible. I was able to learn the technique and then got hooked on it. How much one can earn in your business?
Crochet is a time-consuming work, hence the cost is based on hours taken, material cost and the level of customization. Since I handle my Corporate work and Crochet orders, I take orders based on time available. Sometimes I have sat up in the night to complete them too. One can earn 10K a month but depends on the time you have(full time or part-time).Tell us about the turning points and milestones in your business:
